Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey shuts out TCNJ

Ewing, N.J.–After suffering two tough losses to start the season, the Eastern University field hockey team proved their resiliency Tuesday night versus The College of New Jersey.

The Eagles defeated the No. 6 Lions 1-0 Tuesday night in what coach Camrin Azzarano called one of the most impressive defensive games she'd seen by Eastern.

The Eagles limited the Lions to two shots on goal and only seven shots for the entire game. Meanwhile the Eagles launched a 19-shot attack against the Lions, 14 of which were shots on goal.

Prior to the game, Azzarano emphasized to her team how important it was to have the mindset of everybody being on the offensive and attacking the ball. She also noted that everyone needed to be ready to defend as well. "Everybody was stepping up and taking responsibility," she said. "Our forwards worked incredibly hard to recover. The girls did a tremendous job of marking."

Senior Yvonne Herbster netted the Eagles' only goal in the 48th minute. Herbster had told Azzarano that it was her favorite goal ever. After receiving the insert on a penalty corner, Herbster slapped a ball from the top of the circle that deflected back to her off a defender. Herbster collected the deflection and immediately shot again, launching a shot over the defense and the goalie for the game's only score.

Eastern looks to build upon this win with another road test at Widener University on Thursday at 7pm.
