Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Falls To FDU

Both teams scored goals in bursts, but the host Devils held off a furious Eastern rally to top the Eagles 19-14.

Despite scoring in the first 30 seconds and controlling the first 10 minutes of play, the Eagles couldn't hold their momentum through the first half.

"I thought we played really well as a team in the beginning of the first half," said Head Coach Camrin Azzarano. "We hung in there well, but we lost some steam by halftime."

The Eagles led 4-1 after 11 minutes, but FDU controlled the final 20 minutes of the period and went to the intermission up 9-6.

The Devils forced turnovers early in the second frame and scored two more in the first two minutes. Grace Griffith responded with a goal in the third minute, but FDU answered with six straight to build a commanding 17-7 lead.

The Eagles regained their composure toward the conclusion of the game. They rallied to score half their goals in the final 15 minutes of play.

"We scored seven goals at the end of the game," said Azzarano. "I thought we worked through the glitches and the sloppiness but there just wasn't enough time on the clock for us to make the difference."

Griffith scored a game-high six goals for the Eagles. Kelly Dando and Christy Hild both notched three. Breana Kilpatrick led the Devils with five goals, Erika Depelteau finishing with four.

The Eagles will return home this Saturday for a 1:30 game against Wilkes University.
