ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- Eastern University Women's Lacrosse scored three
times in the opening three minutes and cruised to a 21-2 win over Wilkes
University in a home MAC contest. The Eagles built an 11-2 edge at half
and held the visiting Colonels scoreless through the second half of
play.
After their quick start, the home side fell into a rhythm
and worked to try to generate offense in settled situations. In that
context, Wilkes kept the game within shouting distance at 6-2 with two
minutes left. The Eastern offense then exploded for five goals in the
final 95 seconds of the first half to put the game away.
Christy
Hild started the burst with her third of four on the day on a free
position shot. Kendall Rood then controlled the draw and raced to the
crease for her only tally of the day. Hild finished her scoring 25
seconds later on a feed from behind the goal by Amelia McNamara.
Wilkes
controlled the next draw, but Allie Fultz caused a turnover and found
Rood in transition. Rood raced to the crease and drew defense before
firing a pass to Grace Griffith on the doorstep. Griffith touched home
her 19th of the year with 13 ticks on the clock. Rood controlled the
next draw and found McNamara with 6 seconds to play. The Eagles
controlled 13 of 14 first-half draws.
Eastern controlled play in
the second half and worked to generate offense in the half field.
Griffith and Dando each finished the day with five goals. Allie Fultz
had two scores, and Brittany Keith, Emmy Fischer, and Allie Gauthier
also added goals.
Eastern (3-5, 3-3 MAC) returns to action Tuesday with an important league test against Widener.
