WILLIAMSPORT, Pa.- Strong winds, heavy rains, and nearly freezing
temperatures made it a tough day to play lacrosse at Lycoming College.
The Eastern University women's team, however, used a four goal burst
late in the first half to pull away to an important 17-8 road win. Grace
Griffith and Kelly Dando each had three goals and two assists and
Kendall Rood scored a season-best five goals and added an assist.
The
Warriors grabbed the lead on Grace Gargiulo's first of four on the
afternoon, but the Eagles rallied with three straight tallies. Dando
popped in the first two on feeds from Griffith, and Christy Hild scored
her first of two on the day on a pass from Allie Gauthier with 23:26 to
play. The Warriors tied the game with two consecutive scores before
Gauthier gave the Eagels the lead for good on a feed from Dando midway
through the period.
The two teams then traded goals before the
Eagles pumped in four straight to claim a 9-4 lead. Courtney Reinhold
scored the first in transition, then Dando, Rood and Hild scored in
succession. The Warriors answered with a tally with four seconds left,
but the Eagles had gained their critical advantage.
Rood scored
two straight out of the intermission, and Amelia MacNamara pushed the
Eastern edge to 12-5 with19 minutes to play. The Warriors cut the
deficit to five, but Rood and Griffith scored twice and Allie Fultz
tallied to ensure the road win.
The Eagles (5-6, 5-3 MAC) host Messiah College on Tuesday and Misericordia on Thursday.
