MYRTLE BEACH, S. C.- Eastern University softball improved to 4-2 on the year with two more wins in Myrtle Beach. The Eagles topped Randolph College 3-2 in a thrilling 8 inning affair in the 9:00 am game and beat Southern Vermont 21-1 in the second game.
Janelle Fair picked up her second win of the season as she scattered six hits and pitched a perfect eighth. The Tigers, playing in their 15th game of the spring, struck first with a single tally in bottom of the first. The Eagles rallied to grab the lead when Sam Terenzoni cracked a two-run double in the second.
Randolph evened the score with an unearned run in the third and then both pitchers settled in to a good rhythm. With the score tied at two after seven, the game went to the international tiebreaker. Jaclyn Gangemi started the inning on second and moved to third on a Michelle Morongell sacrifice. She scored the winning run as strike three skipped away from the Randolph catcher.
The Eagles scored nine runs in the first inning and rolled to the lopsided win in the second game. Maggie McGowan hit her third home run of the trip and picked up the win on the mound.
The Eagles return to action tomorrow with two more games in South Carolina.
