ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- Eastern University Women's Lacrosse knew they faced a
tough challenge as they prepared to face #1 ranked The College of New
Jersey in a non-league home game. The size of that challenge was made
apparent early as the visiting Lions jumped to an early lead and held on
for a 20-2 win.
The Lions (9-0) entered play with an overwhelming
136-17 advantage in goals and a 75% success rate in draw controls.
Their dominance in the center circle translated to consistent possession
today as well. The Eastern defense was on duty for much of the game as
the Lions, led by Kathleen Notos with seven, gathered nearly 80% of the
draws.
TCNJ scored on seven of their first eight shots and built a
12-0 lead midway through the first period. The Eagles scored a pair of
goals in transition to close the gap briefly, but the Lions built their
lead to 14-2 at half. Grace Griffith and Christy Hild scored for the
Eagles.
Allison Jaeger led TCNJ with 5 goals and four assists, and three other players had three or more goals.
The visitors controlled the ball for much of the second half as
well on the way to their ninth straight win. The Eagles (0-4) will look to
rebound on Thursday when they host Manhattanville College in an
important MAC test on Thursday.
