ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern University Men's Basketball trounced the Penn St. Abington Lions 111-84 in the Nate Ware Invitational Friday night.
Eastern senior Alex Nelson lit up the scoreboard with a game-high 33 points. Nelson earned a double-double by collecting a game-high 11 rebounds.
Martin Soaries scored 15 in the win and Mike Donatoni and Collin Whipple each added 11 points.
Penn St. Abington's offense was led by 22 points from Mike Colacci. Colacci shot 5-for-10 from 3-point range.
Alex Nelson scored the first basket of the evening and the Eagles kept the lead for the rest of the game. The Lions cut the deficit to 13 midway through the second half, but the Eagles pulled away and kept the margin hovering around 20 points.
A total of 58 fouls were called on both teams. The Lions shot 23-for-33 from the free throw line and the Eagles shot 28-for-38.
With the win Eastern plays Lehman College at 3 pm Saturday to conclude the Nate Ware Invitational.
Lehman College defeated Eastern Nazarene College 71-54 with Mathias Raggiatto leading all players with 20 points.
Eastern Nazarene will play Penn St. Abington at 1 pm.
