MADISON, N.J.--Eastern University Field Hockey dropped its first
conference game this season, losing to the FDU-Florham Devils 1-2 in
overtime Thursday.
The matchup featured the top two Freedom
Conference teams. Both teams now hold a 4-1 conference record with just
two conference games remaining.
Eastern kept FDU-Florham's sophomore goalie Tess Loughran busy,
shooting 22 times in the game, including 14 on goal. Head Coach Camrin Azzarano commented that the team had opportunities but did not capitalize.
Eastern's Abby Wagner capitalized on an opportunity with just over a minute remaining in the first half. Wagner finished off a low hit towards the goal mouth by Kelby Bolton. Wagner scored her
eighth goal of the season, a team high, and Kelby Bolton recorded her fifth assist on
the play.
Wagner's goal tied the game at one going into the half. Neither team
found a way to score in the second half. Then, nine minutes into
overtime, the Devils' Megan Springmeyer got past the defense and netted
the game winner.
The Eagles, now 7-8, finish their conference schedule with a game
against DeSales University on Saturday and Delaware Valley College on
Tuesday.
