Men's Soccer Edges Delaware Valley

DOYLESTOWN, Pa.--Eastern University Men's Soccer outshot Delaware Valley College 17-4 en route to a 1-0 road victory Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore forward Mitch Osterhouse scored the game-winner after 77:59 of scoreless soccer action. The goal was Osterhouse's second this season and was assisted by Braden Gross. Gross set up the goal after sliding to recover a ball past the 18, then quickly popped up and tapped the ball to Osterhouse. Osterhouse, with two goals this season, received a pass from Braden Gross near the top of the 18 and fired a left-footed shot that beat Delaware Valley's diving goalie to the far right corner.

Osterhouse's shot was just one of Eastern's 17 shots. Coach Mark Wagner said the front third needs to improve on finishing more of its shots. "For the number of opportunities we created, we've got to better at finishing what we create," he said. "We need to have more of a sense of urgency in the front third to put things away."

Gross, who leads Eastern with 14 points, nearly scored in the 13th minute when he booted a ball off the crossbar.

The Eagles earned 12 penalty kicks and prevented the Aggies from earning any. Wagner said that while the offense struggled to find the net, the defense did a good job keeping the Aggies at bay.

"You've got to battle and scrap and just keep them from putting a ball away when you're struggling to score," he said. "To that end I think we did a nice job--we got a shutout. We didn't give them many good looks at goal, and so I thought that was a positive. Jon handled a few balls in the air and it was good to see him rebound [from a 3-0 loss to DeSales]."

Eagles' goalie Jon Crowder kept the Aggies out of the goal to record his second shutout of the season.

The Eagles improved to 8-4 this season (2-1 in Freedom Conference) and host Misericordia University Saturday.
