Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Stops Chargers

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- Eastern University Women's Basketball beat visiting Lancaster Bible College 85-51 in the first game of the 2011 calendar year for both teams. The Eagles, who won their last two games prior to the break, used efficient offense to build a 46-26 halftime lead and never looked back. Shante Jones scored 29 points on 12-14 shooting to lead the Eagles (7-4).

After LBC (4-7) grabbed a 4-3 lead early, Jones sparked a 10-0 run with a pair of inside baskets. The lead grew steadily through the half and first year point guard Katie Lincoln delivered a dagger with a transition three pointer as time expired to give the home side a 20 point lead at the break.

Eastern shot 58% through the first half. Jones led the way with 17 points on 7-8 shooting. Lincoln scored 10 of her 15 points in the first twenty minutes of action as well. The Chargers shot 46% in the first half, but 13 turnovers and an 18-9 deficit on the backboards put the visitors in a big hole.

The Eagles scored the first eight points of the second half, and pushed the lead into the thirties as the half progressed. The Eastern defense held the Chargers to just 29% after the half. Sam Weaver, who tallied 8 points in the contest, blocked three shots in the second half and forced several other inside players to adjust their shots.

Bekah Roland joined Jones and Lincoln in double-figures with an  11 point 10 rebound effort. Emily Lloyd led the guests with 15 and Lacy McClaine added 14.

Eastern will have a day to prepare for Freedom Conference power DeSales on Saturday. Saturday's doubleheader is the final day of the Eastern Athletic Department Coat Drive.
