Women's Basketball Falls at DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa. -- Eastern University Women's Basketball dropped a 67-57 decision at DeSales University. The Eagles hung tough early, but in the end, turnovers and rebounding undid the Eagles as they dropped their sixth straight road contest. Bekah Roland recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds and Shante Jones scored 20 with 9 boards to pace the Eagles (10-8, 3-5 Freedom) Sondrine Glovas scored a game-high 25 to lead the host Bulldogs in victory.

Jones scored on the opening tap, and the two teams exchanged leads through through the opening minutes until Jones found Lori Wileczek in the corner for an open three pointer to give the Eagles a 12-9 lead. The Bulldogs responded with six straight points, but the Eagles rallied on baskets from Roland and Jones to reclaim a 16-15 lead at the midway point of the first half. DeSales outscored the Eagles 14-7 through the final nine minutes of the half to hold a 29-23 edge. In the first half, DeSales converted 13 Eastern turnovers into 15 points, and they earned an extra 13 possessions with offensive rebounds.

The Eagles battled in the second half and were able keep the game within reach behind solid defending and scoring from Roland and Jones.  Even with no other Eastern player was able to connect on a shot from the field until the final two minutes of the contest, the Eagles were within seven with six minutes to play. A 7-0 run from the defending league champions pushed the DeSales lead to 55-41, and the Bulldogs held off the Eagles despite three point baskets from Roland, Wileczek, and Katie Lincoln down the stretch.

The Eagles return to the floor Monday evening across Eagle Road at Cabrini. They renew their rivalry with their Radnor neighbors after a two-year hiatus. The doubleheader with the Men's team marks the conclusion of the Competitive food drive to benefit City Team Ministries. Fans who bring food items to the game for donation will be eligible to win several prizes that will be raffled throughout the evening.
