Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Tops Rutgers-Camden

Eastern University Women's Soccer gave up an early goal before rallying to down Rutgers-Camden 3-1 in their opening game of the Haverford College Kickoff Classic. Kelsey Doutrich scored a pair of goals and added an assist in the win.

Things started poorly for the Eagles as Rutgers' Samantha Sharp took a ball on the right side and drove all the way to the goal to put the Raptors up in the 11th minute. "We had at least six or seven players who could have prevented the goal," Head Coach Dan Mouw commented, "but our combined inattentiveness resulted in a chance that they took."

From the goal, the Eagles took over the majority of possession in the game, and began to create chances. Their assertiveness was rewarded in the 25th minute as Doutrich took a pass from Tess Beckwith at the top of the box and buried a low drive from 18 yards out.

Doutrich gave the Eagles the lead for good in the 38th minute on  nifty through ball from Kristine Zeiset. Doutrich received the ball on the run at the top of the 18th and slipped it into the lower corner for the game-winner.

Michelle Brown scored Eastern's third goal at the start of the second half. The first year midfielder scored her first goal on a decisive high finish after Doutrich pulled a Katie Ruth cross out of the air. The Eagles continued to control the game and finished with a 25-5 edge in shots and an 11 corner kicks to the Raptors' two. Aly Goodman made two saves in the win.

"It took us some time to adjust to the grass, "Mouw said, " but I think we started to trust each other more in the second half. With that, we were able create good chances for each other. My hope is that we can continue to build on some of the progress we showed this afternoon."

The Eagles return to action Sunday afternoon at 2:00 against the Tournament hosts.
