Eastern University Men's Soccer fell to the Rutgers-Camden Scarlet Raptors this evening in a 2-0 decision.
The pair of goals came early, in the 6th and 26th minutes of play. Turgut Kilicoglu opened the scoring for the Raptors in the seventh minute. He received a through ball from teammate Shane McGrory and found the net from the left side of the goalmouth. Chris Edelschein scored the second goal on a header off of a restart.
The Eagles took time to adjust to the fast pitch and strong Rutgers-Camden team. Through the first half, they registered four shots in comparison the the Raptors' ten.
"I thought Rutgers-Camden came out very well in the first half," Wagner stated. "They are a good team, and we did not respond well at the start. We gave the ball away too easily in the first half, but I think our adjustments in the second half allowed us to keep the ball much better."
A rejuvenated Eastern squad took the field for the second half. EU dominated and keeper John Crowder was not even forced to make a save. Eastern recorded 6 shots on goal, but was unable to capitalize on any opportunities.
Wagner challenged his team after the game saying: "We are 5 games in and we haven't started well in 4 of those 5 games. But in all 5 games, we have dominated in the second half. If we start the way that we finish, we will win games."
Eastern plays again on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at home against local rival Cabrini College.
