Grace Griffith scored five times and set up four more goals to lead Eastern University Women's Lacrosse to a 22-12 win at Lebanon Valley College.
The Dutchman scored first and the game was within one goal at 2-3, with 21:57 on the clock. The Eagles, however, scored the next six goals to seize control of the contest. The Eagles scored with regularity through the opening period, but the hosts were able to stay within six as the half closed at 13-7. Eastern held a 22-11 edge in shots and dominated the ground ball game 21-7.
Griffith scored her fifth goal of the day immediately after the break on an assist from Krystal Cairns. The goal was the 63rd of the season for the junior attack from Amhurst, Mass. Teammate Jess Field scored four times, and Kendall Rood and Krystal Cairns each added three.
Although LVC won 21 of 36 draws, the Eagles were able to earn possession back with 15 caused turnovers, and they finished with a 38-18 shot advantage for their eighth win of the year.
The Eagles increased their lead to 19-9 when Allie Fultz set up Cairns with just under 20 minutes to play. Chelsea Braungart and Sarah Hager finished free position shots in the final ten minutes of the game. Lindsey Corbitt made five saves to pick up the win in goal.
Eastern returns to action on Tuesday afternoon with a critical home test against FDu-Florham. The Devils sit in the third spot in the league standings. The Eagles (8-7, 7-3 MAC) can improve their playoff seeding with results in their final two league games.
