Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Powers Past LVC

Cal Napolitano scored three times and added three assists as Eastern University Men's Lacrosse downed Lebanon Valley College (2-10, 0-9 MAC) in Conference action in St. Davids. Thirteen different players scored goals for the home side in the 18-6 win.

The Eastern coaches spent a decent part of the week imploring their young squad to retain their focus through each game. With a big game against FDU on this upcoming Tuesday and a stunning overtime win at previously unbeaten Elizabethtown earlier in the week, there was reason to suspect that the young Eastern squad might get caught resting on their collective laurels or looking ahead. Those fears were quickly allayed as the Eagles scored seven first period goals and jumped to a 13-1 lead at halftime.

Joey Wilmot opened the scoring just over two minutes in and Michael Hofmeister tallied forty seconds later. The Eagles scored two more goals in quick sequence a minute and a half later. Napolitano scored his first of the day at with 10:44 to play in the period and Hofmeister scored his 18th of the year a minute later. Napolitano completed his hat trick with another pair of goals in quick succession, and Zac Ivy closed out the first period scoring with five minutes to play.

After scoring the two opening goals of the second period on tallies from Dave Darling and Matt Wagner, the Eagles jumped to a 13-0 lead with a four goal burst over 68 seconds. Will Johnson scored twice, and Matt Soldano and Chris Farrar added single tallies. The burst was made possible by Eastern's dominance of face-offs. AJ Ryan and Darling combined to win 12 of 14 face-offs in the opening period.

Aaron Benz made six saves and allowed a pair of goals before giving way to Dave Hoger and Brandon Schmidt for the final period. Erik Nelson, Wilmot, Eric Docherty, Dillard Brooks, and Tim Dempsey scored second half goals for the Eagles.

With the win and Elizabethtown's win over FDU-Florham, the Eagles sit in a two-way tie with Elizabethtown atop the MAC Standings. Though the Eagles hold the tie-breaker over the Jays, they have a pair of challenging league games remaining. Eastern travels to FDU for a night game on Tuesday and will close out the regular season with a home game against Messiah College. Though they control their own destiny on the way to the top seed, the Eagles need at least one win to secure a home game in the MAC playoffs.
