Eastern University Men's Lacrosse entered this evening's contest at Farleigh Dickinson- Florham on a seven game winning streak. The Eagles fell behind early, and were never able to make up ground in an 11-4 loss.
The
defeat drops the Eagles back into a three-way tie for second place in
the MAC. FDU took a 4-0 lead after a period and had built that
advantage to 7-0 before the Eagles were finally able to get one past
their All-Conference goalie. Alex Kajencki finished with 12 stops in goal for the hosts.
Zac Ivy scored the first Eastern goal on a neat backhanded finish of a Will Johnson pass. Less than a minute later, Michael Hofmeister
scored the second Eastern goal of the day to cut the deficit to 7-2.
Despite a couple good chances, Eastern was unable to close the gap further over the final five minutes of the first half. Joey Wilmot bounced a shot in transition with six seconds left that beat Kajencki, but skipped of the crossbar.
The hosts stretched their lead in the second half as the Eagles broke down in the clearing game and took several penalties. Chris Farrar and Cal Napolitano scored second half goals for Eastern.
Brian Gill scored four times for the hosts, and Kevin Shadiack scored three.
The
Eagles host Messiah College in their final regular season game on
Saturday. That game will likely be for a chance to host a first round
game in the MAC Championships the following week.
