Eastern University Women's Lacrosse jumped to a 6-0 lead in the
opening 13 minutes of the game and cruised to a 19-3 win at Wilkes
University on Thursday night. Grace Griffith and Kendall Rood each
scored four times in the win.
The Eagles opened up the early lead
as Kelly Dando finished a free position shot and Krystal Cairns put
away an Allie Fultz pass. Fultz then put the guests up 3-0 on a pass
from Jess Field with 23 minutes remaining. Griffith, the Eagles'
leading scorer, then scored two straight on feeds from Cairns. Rood
scored her first of the day with 17:42 on the clock.
The
Colonials finally found a crack in the Eastern defense just over midway
through the opening period. The Eagles answered that strike with five
of their own before Wilkes scored the final goal of the half. The
Eagles, up 12-2, had a commanding 22-10 edge in shots. Kristy Getsay
turned away five shots in the first half.
For the game, eight
different Eastern players scored goals. Eastern assistant coach Rachel
Lenzo was pleased with Eastern's 10 assists on the afternoon. Cairns
led the Eagles with four assists.
The Eagles return to action Tuesday afternoon at Rosemont College.
