Two days of rain did
not stop the Eastern University softball team from taking the field
against Arcadia on Wednesday afternoon.
Arcadia downed the Eagles s 8-0 in the first game, but Eastern avenged the loss with a 5-3 win in game two.
The Arcadia starter held the Eastern bats to a pair of hits in game one, and though the host Knights managed just six hits, they used four Eastern errors to pull away to an 8-0 win.
Eastern bounced back in game two behind a strong performance from the bottom half of the lineup. Five of the Eagles' six hits came from the sixth spot down. Junior catcher Molly Oberholzer went 2 for 3 with an RBI and senior outfielder Steph Weaver delivered the big blow in a three-run sixth with a two-run double.
Kristine Rosko went the distance in game two for Eastern to pick up the win. The junior from Edison, N.J. scattered seven hits and struck out one.
"I'm always pleased when our team shows enough guts to bounce back from a loss," commented head coach Brittany Stroop. "Unfortunately, we can't survive on just winning the back half of doubleheaders. We need to find a way to have the same intensity to start doubleheaders as we have when are trying to come back from a first game loss."
"There are several things that we need to address defensively before we return to conference play on Tuesday," added Stroop. "We need to cut down on the extra opportunities we give other teams to score. If we can cut down on the mental mistakes we'll be a more complete team that puts themselves in a good position to win day in and day out."
Eastern will return to action on Tuesday, April 6 at Delaware Valley for an important Freedom Conference show down. The doubleheader is set to start at 3:00 PM.
