Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Stopped by Bears

The Eastern University men's lacrosse team played their home opener against Ursinus College (4-0) in monsoon-like conditions. The Eagles held much of the possession early and slowed the Bears through the opening half, but a four goal third period proved to be the difference as Ursinus pulled away to an 8-1 win.

While the weather earlier in the day was miserable, the worst of the rain and wind hit St. Davids just as the game got under way. Eastern earned possession on the opening face-off, but the Eagles were unable to get inside of the Ursinus defense. The Bears took advantage of a failed clear and Eric Farris tallied his first of the day just over nine minutes into the game. Farris finished the afternoon with three goals to lead Ursinus.

Aaron Benz made two of his six saves in the opening period and the two teams changed ends with Ursinus up 1-0. The Bears then scored twice in transition in the second period. Pat Nagle scored after a Matt Conway interception, and Jeff Ocampo scored a crushing third goal with less than a minute and a half remaining in the half.

The Eagles had the final possession of the half, but three straight shots failed to find the mark. Eastern held an 8-4 edge in shots in the second period, but the Bears kept the young Eagles from getting close shots at good angles and TJ Magnani was able to track the long shots for three saves in the period.

Ursinus scored four times in the third to pull away, and Farris scored his third of the day to start the 4th before Zac Ivy found the goal on a pass from Matt Soldano to get the Eagles on the board with eight minutes to play.

Coach Childs was frustrated with his young team's inability to convert possession into goals, but the Eastern head coach believes that his team can learn from the tough afternoon. "We really struggled to run any kind of offense going today. We know what we need to work on and we have some time to work on it." The Eagles return to action on March 24th with their MAC opener against Widener.
