Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Wins Tenth Straight

Early in 2009, the Eastern University Field Hockey Team fell in overtime at Gwynedd-Mercy College. This year, the #8 Eagles left nothing to chance with a convincing 4-0 win. Kelby Bolton slammed in the game winner in the 27th minute, and Yvonne Herbster, Jess Jaindl, and Brittany Moyer each tallied a goal and an assist.

While the Eagles controlled much of the play early, they did not record a shot until a Herbster effort was turned away in the 13th minute. Bolton's tally came after a flurry of activity in front of the Gwynedd-Mercy cage. Christin Haas played a solid insert to Moyer who moved the defense one way with a deft fake before finding Bolton on her left. Bolton settled the pass and unleashed a low screamer to the opposite corner.

"I just wanted to hit the corner," Bolton said afterwards, "I try keep over it and make good contact." Bolton remarked that the team had a little bit extra focus after what they perceived was a let down game in 2009.

Eastern held an 8-3 edge in first half shots and a 6-1 advantage in corners, but the result was still in question with only the single goal at intermission. The Eagles demonstrated their quality with a quick three goal burst to start the second half.

Herbster opened the second half scoring on a short shot off a pass from Jaindl. Ninety seconds later, Jaindl made it 3-0 after a nice offensive movement from the entire team. Moyer earned the circle and blistered a sharp cross into the scoring area. Kim Campbell made a controlling touch to push the ball back across the Griffin goalie and Jaindl touched it home for her fifth of the year.

Moyer finished the scoring on a nice ball into space from Herbster. The goal from the sophomore forward completed the second Christopher Dock trifecta of the year. Jaindl, Bolton, and Moyer also tallied goals at Rowan.

Today's victory begins another stretch of home games for the Eagles, who had been away for the five games prior to today. They will look to run their winning streak to eleven on Thursday afternoon when they host Haverford College in a "Play for the Cure Event." Proceeds from concessions and a bake sale will go to the Susan G. Komen foundation.
