Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Tops FDU-Florham

Eastern University Field Hockey scored three goals in each half to claim a 6-1 home win over FDU-Florham. Freshman forward Jess Jaindl led the attack with four goals. The win assures a spot in the Freedom Conference post-season for the #10 Eagles.

Kim Campbell opened the scoring late int he third minute with a brilliant bit of stick work in the box. The senior forward dug a rebound loose in tight and lifted a short shot off the top pipe for her 12th goal of the year. The Eastern lead lasted until the 20th minute when Megan Springmeyer dribbled into the circle and pushed a low shot to the corner to level the score.

The Eagles responded almost immediately as Jaindl connected on her first of the day on a shot that caromed off the foot and stick of FDU defenders. While Eastern held most of possession in the game, the result was still in doubt when Laura Ressler made a huge sprawling save on a blast from in tight on a penalty corner in the 26th minute. Ressler finished with four saves to pick up her 14th win of the year.

A yellow card late in the opening period forced the guests to play short. The Eagles (14-2, 5-0 Freedom) took advantage on a pretty connection between first year forwards. Abby Wagner earned the edge on the right side and clipped a solid cross to the back post for Jaindl. Jaindl's first touch was the only one she would need to give the Eagles a 3-1 lead with 43 seconds before the break.

A physical game escalated further after the break. Brittany Moyer appeared to be in on goal in the 49th minute. A hard slide from the FDU goalie resulted in a penalty stroke opportunity. Kelby Bolton's left no doubt with a powerful rip to the upper part of the cage.

Jaindl tallied again in the 63rd minute on a cross from Moyer. She wrapped up her day with her 12th of the year in the 69th minute off a pass from Lindsey Corbitt. The Eagles return to action on Saturday at 1:00 against Misericordia University with a chance to secure the top seed in the Freedom Conference Tournament.
