Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

April 30: Women's Lacrosse Ends Year in Semi's

After falling behind 3-1, the Eagles scored three straight goals to seize a 4-3 lead with just under 18 minutes to play in the first half, but the host  Blue Jays scored eight straight times before the half to build an 11-4 lead and take control of the game. After the Eagles missed a shot high for a chance to make it 5-3, Elizabethtown controlled six of eight draws over the final sixteen minutes of the period to control possession. Anna Ford, who finished with two goals for the hosts wound up with a game-high eight draw controls including three in the critical stretch that closed the first half.

Grace Griffith scored off a free position shot to open the game and finished with three on the day. Katie Choquette finished a free position goal for her only tally of the day, and Jessie Basch scored her 201st career goal to give the Eagles their last lead of the game with 17:46 to play in the opening half.

Griffith picked up her third of the day on another free position goal to start the second half, but the Eagles were not able to cut into the lead further. Freshman midfielder Kristin Brownett scored the last two goals for the Eagles. Five of the seven Eastern goals came on free position shots, as the Eastern squad struggled to find space in the eight to work.

The loss is the first in the Conference Playoffs for the strong group of seniors who will graduate a week from Saturday. In each of their first three years, they earned wins on the road to take a Conference Championship, but this year, they ran into a very determined, athletic, and skilled Elizabethtown squad. Coach Azzarano acknowledged the strength of the opposition after the game. "They are a very good team," she said," and we see what is in front of us if we want to make it back to the NCAA Tournament. They will graduate some outstanding players, but we do as well. We had a very good run with this group, and I am proud of what they have accomplished."
