Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Mar. 21: Late Goal Lifts Women's Lacrosse

Katie Choquette scored her second goal of the game with only eight seconds to play to lift Eastern Women's Lacrosse to a 16-15 win at Montclair State. Jessie Basch and Grace Griffith each tallied five times as the Eagles leveled their record at 2-2 on the year.

The game-winning goal came in answer to a Montclair goal with 23 seconds to play. Following the Red Hawk goal, Eastern senior Erin Reimel battled for and won the draw. After a foul on the flank, Reimel threw ahead to Kristin Brownett who raced at the cage from the right side and found Choquette in front for the game-winner.

Choquette's late heroics were made necessary by a late comeback from Montclair. Eastern led by four goals with just less than seven minutes to play, but the Red Hawks scored four straight over a four minute stretch to level the game at fifteen.

The first half started with the Eagles jumping to a quick 6-1 advantage in the opening eighteen minutes of the game. Griffith and Brownett each had a pair of goals in the opening run and Allie Fultz and Erin Fries also scored. Montclair answered with a five goal burst to level the match at 6-6 with 7:32 to play.

Basch buried her first two goals of the day, and Griffith added her third with 42 seconds to play in the half, but Montclair's Cora Delfini tucked away her second goal of the game to pull her squad to within a goal at 9-8.

Both teams fired 18 shots in the first half, but the Eagles put seventeen of theirs on frame. Kim Campbell made six saves in the first half.

Eastern scored four straight to start the second half and eventually built a five goal edge when Basch's fourth of the day made it 14-9 with 11:24 remaining. Montclair State scored twice, and Basch scored another free position goal to set up the final stretch of the game.

Campbell finished with 17 saves, and Choquette registered two assists to go with her two goals. Lauren Adams led the Red Hawks with five goals, and Kayla Henderson added four.

Eastern Head Coach Camrin Azzarano had mixed reactions to her team's performance saying, "We had some really good moments in the game, and a lot of the things we have been working on over the week we did today, which is good. Reimel did a great job to win the final draw, and the last goal was really well-executed, but we also had too many lapses in execution that let them get back into the game."

The Eagles (2-2, 1-1) return to Freedom Conference action with a 7:00 pm game at FDU-Florham on Wednesday.
