Softball Rallies For Split at King's

Eastern University Softball rallied in the nightcap to split with King's. Kristine Rosko picked up the win with seven solid innings in game two.

Not much went right for the Eagles in game one as the host Monarchs jumped to a 5-0 lead before the Eagles had a hit. Maggie McGowan collected Eastern's first hit and scored the only Eastern run of the game in the fourth. King's scored five in the bottom of the fifth to end game one 10-1.

Game two started out significantly better as the Eagles manufactured a single tally in the top of the first. Alissa Brubaker got hit by a pitch to start the rally. After the senior shortstop advanced to second on a Stephanie Weaver bunt, her fellow senior Karen Hertzog drove her home with a single to center.

The Eagles doubled their lead in the fourth when freshman left fielder Jaimie Schwartz drove in Hertzog to make it 2-0. King's tied the game with a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth and took the lead with a single tally in the fifth before the Eagles rallied with single runs in the sixth and seventh to earn the win.

Jaclyn Gangemi cracked a double to start the action in the sixth. She would score the tying run on a Schwartz grounder to second. The Eagles loaded the bases with no one out in the seventh but could only muster a single run on a fielder's choice from Hertzog.Weaver scored the game-winning run.

King's put a runner on second with one out in the bottom of the seventh, but Rosko worked her way out of the jam with a fly ball and a strike out. Both teams had six hits in the game.

The Eagles (8-6 2-2) host Manhattanville College on Saturday.
