Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Falls at King's

The host Monarchs (8-2, 1-0) found the only goal of the match midway through the opening half and held on for the win.

The Eagles failed to find much offensive rhythm in the opening half, and neither team created many great chances. Joey Bender scored the game-winner for King's after a Greg DeMaio pushed a a ball out of a tackle and into the space between the two Eastern center backs. Bender's low shot slid just inside the left upright.

The Monarchs had another couple chances on corner kicks late in the half. Nate Goble made a late sliding tackle to ruin a golden opportunity for the hosts as the half drew to a close.

King's had their best chance of the second half five minutes in, but Jon Crowder came up with a diving stop to keep the Eagles within striking distance. For the rest of the evening, the Eagles pressed the Monarch goal.

Braden Gross took a great chance midway through the period, but his right-footed blast from 18 yards out sailed just over the upper corner. Terry Fry got to the end of a Dan Shields just as the King's goalkeeper smothered the ball. Five minutes later, the Eagles earned a free kick at the top of the box, but Mike Leitzel's attempt sailed high.

Kyle Hurst and Matt Demascola also saw shots go high in the run of play before the eightieth minute.

Still down a goal, the Eagles committed more numbers forward and had four legitimate scoring chances in the final seven minutes of the match. Braden Gross's shot on a near post run popped over the bar from ten yards out, and Ben Faro cracked a brilliant left-footed strike that dipped just over the cross bar with 2:30 to play.

The Eagles served two long restarts into the box in the final minute of play and had action at goal on each but could not slide in the equalizer. The Eastern staff pointed to the playof Hurst and Faro as bright spots in a very frustrating evening.

The Eagles return to action on Wednesday afternoon at Ursinus College before returning to Freedom Conference play against DeSales next Saturday.
