Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women's Basketball Falls at DeSales

In the end, the 12th ranked Bulldogs were just too much. The Eastern University women's basketball team put together some of their best basketball of the season in the opening 13 minutes of their second semester debut, but the DeSales University Women pulled away to an 83-46 win.

The Eagles held a slim 22-21 lead with 6:30 to play, but the host Bulldogs used sharp shooting from distance and a stifling defense to piece together a 23-4 run and break open the game.

The Eagles opened the contest with solid ball-handling and timely shooting. Lizzie Wilson and Joelle DeCarlo worked in the back court together to handle the Bulldog press and create chances for the front court players. On the defensive end, however, the Eagles struggled to stay in front of the the Bulldogs and quickly found themselves in foul trouble. With DeCarlo picking up her third midway through the half, the host's superior depth began to wear down the Eastern guards to force turnovers and create easy baskets.

Bekah Roland led all scorers with 11 at the break, but the Bulldog balance broke the game open as eight DeSales players scored before the break.

DeSales stretched their lead with a 20-0 open to start the second half. The Eagles connected on just 5-31 shots in the second half. Roland led all scorers with 14 points. Hannah Tobin and Tanisha Starkes joined her in double figures with 11 and 10 points respectively. LeighAnn Burke and Kim Rarick each scored 13 points to lead five DeSales players in double figures.

The Eagles fall to 3-5 on the year. They return to action next Wednesday evening when the host King's College in another Freedom Conference contest.
