Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer Falls to Ithaca

Eastern University Women's Soccer briefly held a 2-1 lead, but the Ithaca Bombers scored a pair of late goals to earn a 3-2 win over Eastern University in the rain-abbreviated Adidas Classic at The College of New Jersey.

The Eagles pushed the action for much of the first frame, but were unable to solve Ithaca goalkeeper Alyssa Sotomoyer who came up with four first-half saves including a pair of spectacular stops to keep Eastern off the board. The Bombers, who reached the "elite 8" in 2007 began to gain control of the play late in the first frame, but were also unable to find their way to goal.

It looked as though the Bombers were positioned to take the lead early in the second half when a header on a corner kick made it to the far post, but senior back Corie Brant held her line and headed the ball away where Eastern goalkeeper Amanda Daveler was able to smother it without further damage.

Senior midfielder Ashley Hackman gave the Eagles their first lead of the year with a solid low finish on a Jill DiRenzo pass in the 54th minute of the match. The lead, however, was short lived as Ithaca's Winnie Adrien head home her first of two goals in the game just over two minutes later. Hackman again gave the Eagles a lead with her second goal of the game in the 64th minute. The senior All-American took a serve from Brant, pushed a ball into space and fired a ball that ticked the inside of the far post on it's way in.

The Bombers again responded with a headed goal on a restart. Adrien broke the 2-2 tie in the 81st minute with a blistering left-footed strike that slipped just inside the far post.

Both teams recorded eight saves in the match. Coach Mouw said of his team's effort, "we did a lot of good things today, and we made strides over the last week of training. We will continue to grow and get better. Ithaca is a good side, and I know that we will grow from the challenge."

The Eagles return to action Friday night at Swarthmore College.
