ranked Scarlet Knights on a two game winning streak. The Eagles controlled play for much of the second half, but were unable to erase a halftime deficit and fell 1-0.
The hosts scored midway through the opening period on a brilliant strike by sophomore midfielder Shane McGrory. Eastern Associate Head Coach Jim Henderson described the play as "really quality goal. He made a very good play and hit a great shot just inside the post."
The two teams went back and forth in the first half, but as the game moved toward its conclusion the Eagles began to push the action deep into the hosts' zone. Rutgers-Camden's first-year goalkeeper Tim Van Liew earned Defensive MVP honors for the tournament with 10 solid saves to keep the Eagles off the board.
Henderson said of the day, "They were a very good team, and we showed how dangerous we could be in the second half. Every time you take on top-level competition, you can learn from it, and we will take a lot away from this game."
Eastern placed Terry Fry, Michael Dorsch, and Mike Leitzel on the All-Tournament team. The Eagles return to action in their home opener against Swarthmore College on Wednesday afternoon. That game will begin at 4:00 pm.
