The Eastern University men's soccer team found their offensive rhythm in a 7-0 win over Centenary College. Five different Eastern players scored goals as the Eagles put together three goals in a six minute burst to break the game open in the second half.
Both teams exchanged possession early in the frenetic opening portion of the game. An extended injury delay in the seventh minute seemed to give the hosts a chance to settle in and collect themselves for the attack. Out of that break, Eastern created several golden opportunities but were unable to put shots on frame as the chances went begging.
In the 19th minute, it looked as if the visiting Cyclones were going to create a scoring chance as they earned a pair of corner kicks. Eastern goalkeeper Michael Dorsch turned the tables as he picked off the serve on the second corner and delivered a 75 yard drop-kick the other way. The ball landed behind the Centenary back line and hit Terry Fry in stride. Fry took a positive touch and curled a shot inside the right upright for the eventual game-winner. The goal was Fry's team-best fifth on the year.
Josh Martin set up the second goal of the match with a nice ball into Ryan Castle in the 33rd minute. Castle pushed the ball into the lower corner for his fourth tally of the year. The Eagles held a 10-2 shot advantage at the break.
Eastern broke the game open in the opening minutes of the second half. Brian Raffle finished a long free with 38:39 showing on the clock. Thirty-one seconds later, Raffle converted a penalty kick for his second goal of the match. The Eagles kept the pressure on, and first-year forward Braden Gross pounced on a Ben Faro pass in front of the net to score his first career goal and lift the the home team to a 5-0 lead in the 58th minute.
Morgan Hunt scored the final two goals of the match. Dorsch made a single save as he and Jon Crowder split the shut out for the Eagles.
Eastern returns to action Saturday night in their Freedom Conference debut at King's College. That game is scheduled for a 7:00 pm start.
