In 2007, the Eastern University softball team advanced to the PAC Final Tournament at Arcadia University. Though Arcadia is no longer in the PAC, the return to the site of last year's post-season run sparked a pair of veterans to outstanding performances in game one as the Eagles earned a split to pick up their 20th win of the year.
Junior center fielder Karen Hertzog delivered the big blow in the top of the third as the Eagles erased a 2-0 lead with a five-run rally capped by Hertzog's first home run of the year and first collegiate grand slam. Raycehl Weis gave up a pair of runs in the second and a single tally in the fifth to earn her tenth win of the year. Weis, last week's PAC Pitcher of the Week bounced back after missing Tuesday's game with the Flu. The Scarlet Knights picked up 10 hits and forced her to work out of jams fairly consistently, but throughout her junior campaign Weis has shown the ability to work around trouble and to eliminate the big inning in order to give her offense a chance to pick her up.Â
Stephanie Weaver continued to find her way to the bases with a 3-4 day. The speedy second baseman has seen her average climb to .354 with a red-hot 18 hits in her last 10 games. Weaver scored twice in the opener.Â
Game two did not work out as well for the Eagles as they fell behind early in a 10-0 loss. The Eagles will return to action for an important PAC doubleheader against Misericrodia University on Saturday. Those games will start at 1:00 pm. As things currently sit, the Eagles are in the fifth spot in the PAC tournament, with a sweep on Saturday, Eastern could earn a home game in the first round.
