afternoon. Kenny Long pitched his third straight gem to help the Eagles earn a win in game one, but the Eastern bats were unable to compensate for unearned runs in a 10-8 loss in the nightcap.
The Eagles woke up early to get to Dallas in time for a noon doubleheader, but the games didn't get going until after 2:00. Long pitched the Eagles to a game one win. The junior gave up two earned runs as he threw his third straight complete game win. Second baseman Mike Santello was the offensive star of the first game with a home run and a double in a 3-4 performance. Matt Powell scored a pair of runs in a with a pair of hits.
The Eagles trailed 4-3 going into the seventh but rallied with three runs in the top of the inning. The Cougar bats knocked four balls out in the second game and a two-double performance from Davis Murray was not enough to overcome Misericordia's 10-2 lead early. John Montague picked up a home run and 3 rbi while catching every inning of the three game series.
Coach Curley was pleased with his team's performance in the opener. He
said, "Kenny continues to pitch well, and our hitters took care of
things with key hits in critical situations. We got ourselves in
trouble in the second game, and just weren't going to be able to
overcome our mistakes."
Eastern returns to action Monday afternoon with a single home game against Wesley College.
