College this afternoon. Kenny Long continued his strong pitching on the year with a complete game 3-2 win in the opener. Paul Sinclair put together an equally strong complete game outing in the nightcap. He was the beneficiary of more run support as the Eagles prevailed 8-2.
In game one, John Montague tripled in the game-winner with two outs in the top of the seventh inning. The senior catcher then made a contribution in the bottom of the inning when he helped Long out of the inning by gunning down a would-be base stealer. After a ground out from the second batter of the inning, Long gave up a single but battled back to finish the game with his sixth strikeout of the day.
Ryan Polk delivered the big blow in game two with a two rbi single in the top of the fifth. Polk picked up his team-best third rbi of the day in three run seventh to give Sinclair a comfortable cushion to close the game. The top five batters in the Eastern order scored all eight runs as Long, Mike Santello, Davis Murray and Montague each scored a pair of runs. Montague continued to shine at the plate with three hits and two rbi in the second game.
The Eagles finish their series with Neumann Tuesday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
