Bats Lift Baseball to Third Straight

have found their swings and have earned three straight wins going into the Conference schedule. Coach Curley's charges pounded out 13 hits for 15 runs on the way toa  convincing 15-6 win over Philadelphia Biblical University (1-7). Paul Sinclair gave up just two earned runs in five innings to pick up his first collegiate win.

Kenny Long and Davis Murray each hit a pair of doubles to lead the Eastern hit parade. The Crimson Eagles jumped to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first, but Eastern battled back with three in the bottom of the inning. The damage could have been worse for PBU, but Mike Santello lined into a double play on a hit and run with two on and no one out. Murray walked and Chris Dole singled to knock in Andrew Reynolds. John Montague then hit a towering drive to left-center that plated Murray and Dole to give the Eagles the lead.

PBU tied the game in the top of the second on an unearned run, and Eastern went quietly in the bottom half of the inning. Sinclair escaped the third with the help of a 4-3 double play to end the inning.

The Eagles exploded for six runs in the bottom of the third. Murray knocked in a pair of runs with a double to right. Long delivered the other big blow of the inning with a two-out double. Montague picked up another RBI with a single in the fourth inning.

Up 10-3 going in to the top of the fifth, Sinclair had to work out of a bases loaded jam. Sinclair allowed a pair of unearned runs in the inning, but finished with a strikeout and a grounder to first to control the damage and set himself up for the win. Coach Curley said of his southpaw's effort, "Paul was unlucky to have as much difficulty as he did today. He probably had to make an extra thirty or forty pitches because of the errors behind him in some key spots, but he battled and came out with the win."

The three game winning streak marks the second such streak for the Eagles in the past two years. Last year's streak included a doubleheader sweep over Neumann College. Coach Curley said of the streak, "We knew coming back from Florida that we would have a chance to get back on track. Our schedule in Florida was really tough, and we had some injuries and things that took their toll, but we also felt like we were doing the right thing for our guys to prepare them for the league. Hopefully the last couple days will give our guys some confidence as we start into the conference schedule. We have some guys that are really starting to hit the ball.

Mike Santello continued to get on base for the Eagles. The second basemen went 2-3 with three runs scored. Montague led the team with four RBI on the day.

The Eagles start action in the PAC at Neumann College with a Monday doubleheader.
