The Eagles registered 20 steals, as they forced the visitors into 32 turnovers. Piotrowski and fellow senior guard Brent Williams each had four. After a slow start had the visiting Pacers up 6-5 with 16 minutes to play, Piotrowski sparked the home team with a steal and lay-up followed by another transition bucket of a Matt Flanagan steal to give the Eagles a three point advantage. Matt Malloy nailed a three-pointer from David Volpe, and the Eagles steadily built their lead to 44-24 at the break.
Malloy led the Eagles into the locker room ten points and five rebounds at the break. ten different Eastern players scored in the first half as the Eagles registered 14 assists on their 17 baskets and shot 47% from the floor. Danny Miller and Piotrowski each had seven points at the break.
The Eastern lead hovered around twenty points for the first eight minutes of the second half until a 27-7 run pushed the Eagles to a 90-53 advantage. Seniors Joe Manzo and David Volpe started the run with eight straight points. On an interesting symbolic note, freshmen Don Kaiser and Jason Nwosu finished the run as Nwosu scored on a pretty inside basket and Kaiser hit one of two from the foul line.
The 39 point win over the Pacers marks the sixth straight win over the Pacers. In addition to Piotrowski, Williams, Malloy, Volpe, Flanagan, Manzo, and Mike Johnson, the Eastern staff honored public address operator Brandon Robinson and manager Allison Cawley for their contribution to the program. Coach Nadelhoffer said of his seniors, "This is a very special group to me and my family. These guys were here when Matthew and Natalie were born, and have been a huge part of our lives. It was great to have a nice win on their day."
The Eagles will not have long to rest on their laurels as they return to action against PAC leaders Immaculata on Monday night. Wins by Cabrini and Gwynedd-Mercy today mean that there are five teams clustered within a game of each other in competition for four play-off spots.
Monday night's game is the second game of a doubleheader with the women and is scheduled for an 8:00 pm start.
