Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Rolls to 5th Freedom Win

Eastern Field Hockey traveled to Purchase, N.Y. and picked up an important Freedom Conference road win. The Eagles got a pair of goals from Sarah Garber to improve to 5-1 in conference play.

Garber put the Eagles on the board in the 14th minute when she redirected a Lindsay Moyer shot into the goal for her fourth goal of the year. Yvonne Herbster doubled the Eastern advantage in the 27th minute when she stuffed home a loose ball on a penalty corner. For the first period,  Eastern held a 9-4 advantage in shots and a slim 5-3 advantage in penalty corners.

Eastern continued to pressure the Manhattanville cage, but were unable to sneak a third goal past the Valiant defense until they were awarded a stroke in the 49th minute. Moyer tucked home the free shot for her team-best 12th tally of the year.

Garber finished the scoring five minutes later when she redirected a Kim Campbell shot. Eastern holds the second spot in the league with two games to play. Laura Ressler made three saves to earn the shutout in goal for the Eagles.

Coach Azzarano said of the day, "I was pleased with our composure, the game got very physical, and I felt our girls dealt with it very well. Any road win in the conference is a good win."

The Eagles return to action Tuesday afternoon at Delaware Valley College.
