Eastern Volleyball entered today's contest ranked first in the country in hitting percentage. The Eagles continue to hit with great efficiency with a .347 team percentage on the evening.
The Eagles jumped to 25-9 first set win and bounced back with a 25-12 second set. They closed out the match with a 25-16 third set. Courtney Reinhold again led the Eagles with 14 kills and seven digs. The first year outside hitter also contributed to three blocks. Kara Hildebrand and Nicole Burns each hit over .400 with five kills apiece. Burns picked up two solo blocks and six block assists in a ten point day.
The efficient Eastern is the result of better passing and the outstanding play of freshman setter Maria Horning. Horning had 21 assists as the Eagles earned their fifth straight 3-0 win in Freedom Conference play. Horning also added a career high seven aces.
Eastern Head Coach Mark Birtwistle was pleased with his team's focus on the evening. "We executed well tonight and took away what they were trying to do. We had good concentration throughout the match and did what we needed to do."
Eastern is off until next Tuesday when they will host Alvernia University in a 7:00 pm game. The Eagles will then travel to DeSales to take on the defending Freedom Conference Champion and pre-season favorite Bulldogs on Thursday.
