was unable to erase a 20 point Neumann College lead as the Eagles fell 68-52 at home. Shaneen Brown led the Eagles on the boards with a game high nine rebounds.
Neumann jumped to a 12-0 start, and had 17 on the board before Brown hit a lay-up in traffic to score the Eagles' first basket and cut the deficit to 17-6. Eastern hit just 5-24 from the field in the first half, but connected on 8-11 from the line to close the gap to 11 late in the first half, but a late Neumann spurt put the Knights up 32-18 at the break. Dominique Thompson hit 5-6 from the line to lead a balanced Knight attack at the break. Tanisha Starkes led the Eagles with eight points and seven rebounds at the break.
The Eagles, already without starting point guard Mandy Kuiken, took another hit to their depth just before the half when Jeriah Garton went down with a knee injury. Her injury coupled with foul trouble would seriously deplete the Eastern line-up for the second half.
Down to seven healthy players for the second half, the Eagles battled, but were unable to make headway against a Neumann team that was content to take care of the basketball and look for good shots. Krista DiRomualdo led the Knights with 12 points in the second half and 17 for the game.
After Joelle DeCarlo fouled out early in the half for the Eagles, Starkes and Tobin began to take over the game at the offensive end of the floor. Tobin hit on eight of ten shots from the field to finish with a season high. Starkes finished with 17 for the game.
Neumann improves to 10-6 overall and 5-2 in the PAC, while the Eagles drop to 1-5 in PAC play. Eastern will have little time to recover as they prepare to host PSU-Berks in a non-conference game on Wednesday night.
