step up to give the Eagles a chance to win at Cedar Crest (4-10, 07). Four Eastern players reached double figures, and their defense forced ten more turnovers than they committed to earn a 65-61 win.
The Eagles took the biggest lead of the game at 28-21 with six minutes to play in the first half on a Patrice Freeman three-pointer. The Falcons quickly answered with a 10-2 run to take the lead with three minutes remaining in the half. Hannah Tobin, who led the Eagles with 15 points on the afternoon, the scored an old-fashioned three point play to give the Eagles a two point lead at 35-33. Joelle DeCarlo hit a pair of free throws, and the Eagles took a 37-35 lead into the break.
Tobin led the Eagles with 13 points at the break. Eastern shot 42% in the opening half. Shaneen Brown continued her strong work on the boards with seven of her game-high twelve boards before the intermission. Leannn Wallower had 15 points to lead the Falcons at half.
Cedar Crest jumped to a 48-42 lead five minutes into the second half, but the Eagles responded quickly with a 6-0 run to tie the game. Brown scored a pair of inside baskets in the run. Tanisha Starkes, who played a season-high 31 minutes and scored 14 points while adding six steals, also scored in the run.
The game went back and forth until Emily Reeser nailed a three pointer with just over four minutes left to give the Eagles the lead for good. Starkes had a pair of steals and five points down the stretch to help the Eagles hang on for their first PAC win of the year. Freeman and DeCarlo finished with eleven points each. For the game, the Eagles committed just 16 turnovers despite losing senior point guard Mandy Kuiken to injury in Friday night's practice. Wallower finished with 26 points for the Falcons.
The Eagles return to action Monday night when they host Neumann College in a 6:00 pm game.
