Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Women's Soccer falls at Ursinus

The Eastern University Women's Soccer Team scuffled to their second loss of the season in a non-conference game at Ursinus College. The Bears scored a goal in the 18th and another goal late in the game to earn the 2-0 win.

The visiting Eagles struggled from the outset to find each other against Ursinus's pressure, and surrendered a goal on a nice cross from Melissa Reuter to Megan Ascanio. Down 1-0, the Eagles were able to venture into the Ursinus end in the first half, but were only able to generate three shots in the opening 45 minutes.

Coach Mouw said of the first half, "There are any number of excuses we could throw out for our flat first half, but none of them really work. Ursinus is a good team, and we did not come out ready to execute in the game. We gave away the first 45 minutes of the match."

The second half saw the Eagles begin to put together more possession, but the game still lacked rhythm or consistency, and the Ursinus back line was able ot hold their ground. It looked as though the Eagles were going to break through in the 75th minute, but Chrissy West's shot after getting behind the back line went just high. Thirty seconds later Nicole Grindle put Ursinus keeper Ashley Potter to the test with a shot from the left side, but was unable to find the net.

Eastern's best chance to draw level came in the 84th minute on a restart from near midfield on the right side. Liza O'Keefe drove a ball into the penalty box that flicked into space in front of Ashley Hackman. Hackman's shot went inches over the bar.

On the ensuing restart, the Bears pushed the ball into the Eastern end and took advantage of the Eastern shape with a counter goal from Reuter.

Coach Mouw said of the game. "None of the players has a particularly good taste in her mouth now, and I think that we will be able to learn from this as we go forward. There were some encouraging flashes in the game, but those were far and away overwhelmed by our lackluster start. We will learn from this."
