After dropping a league result to Misericordia at home Wednesday, the Eagles bounced back to beat DeSales 3-1 on Saturday. The Eagles, who built a 3-0 lead, got goals from three different players en route to the important non-league win.
Brian Raffle jump-started the Eastern attack when he headed home an Alex Clark serve in the first five minutes of the game. The goal was particularly encouraging to the Eastern coaching staff as the team had struggled to convert restart opportunities in the early part of the year.
Up 1-0, the visiting Eagles put together some outstanding moments in the opening frame as well as some short stretches of inconsistency. DeSales had a couple chances to tie the game up going into the half, but Michael Dorsch and the Eastern back line were able to keep the sheet clean going into the break.
Right away in the second half, Eastern again put pressure on goal, and Aaron Tritch converted his first of the year as he slid a right-footed shot into the bottom of the net to double the Eagle advantage. Cliff Gehret earned the assist on the goal.
Coach Wagner's squad continued to press forward, and their efforts were rewarded when Taylor VanBrackle slammed home a Bryce Plummer cross for his second goal of the year with just over 18 minutes to play. The Bulldogs pulled back a goal with under ten to play, but the Eagles were able to hang on for their third win of the year.
Eastern is off until Thursday when they travel to play Centenary College with a chance to level up their PAC record.
DeSales will be a league oppenent when Eastern joins the Freedom Conference next fall.Â
