Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Survives at Cabrini

In 2006, the Eastern University Field Hockey team took their only PAC loss to their Eagle road rivals in a game played in a downpour. This year, the Eagles escaped with a win at Cabrini.

The game did not go as scripted for Coach Azzarano's squad, as they gave up a goal on a penalty corner in the first minute of the match. Azzarano said of her team, "we made critical mistakes early and we had to work to get ourselves back in the game."

In the tenth minute of the match, Jamie Heck finished a pass from Lindsay Moyer to tie the game and begin to retake some momentum, but the Eagles still did not finish the half on an upnote. Scuffling along going into halftime, Azzarano credits senior co-captain Stephanie Moyer with stepping up in her leadership role and challenging her teammates to play together.

From the start of the second half, Eastern began to take control of the game and move the ball with consistency. Lindsay Moyer knocked in a pass from fellow sophomore Elya Troup to put the Eagles up 2-1 in the 39th minute of the game.

Though the Eagles still controlled much of the play, Cabrini continued to battle, and the Cavaliers converted a stroke to level the game at two goals each.

Eastern's dominance in penalty corners paid of in the 62nd minute as they were able to convert for the game-winner off another Lindsay Moyer assist. This time, Olivia Derr finished the goal for the Eagles.

Now 2-0 in the PAC, the Eagles return to action tomorrow night with a road match against defending national champion Ursinus College.
