Eastern Men's Soccer dropped the season-opener to a strong Gettysburg College side. The Eagles battled Bullets for 118 minutes before falling in a heartbreaking 1-0 loss.
Eastern Head Coach Mark Wagner said of the game, "It was a very evenly played game, and those often come down to restarts. They were able to execute on their restarts better than we were." The Bullets scored the game winner just into the first overtime when Geoff Menge put away a scramble in front of the goal.
Gettysburg was picked by Centennial Conference coaches to finish second in their league. Coach Wagner said of his opponent, "Gettysburg is a very good team, and I think we will prove to be as we mature over the next few weeks.
The Eastern men have a nearly a week to train for next weekend's tournament at Rutgers-Camden. Coach Wagner's squad will open the action against Villa Julie at 5:00 pm Friday.
