"The Wasteland," but the difference between the expectation of an April 1st sweep of Neumann and the reality of a fifteen game winless stretch is indeed cruel.
The Eagles, who have been in the majority of the games over the past month, ran into a Wesley team in the midst of a playoff hunt in their best season ever. The Wolverines were looking to secure a high seed in the PAC playoffs. On Friday, the Eagles traveled to Dover for a double-header.
Kenny Long gave his team a chance to win as he held the explosive Wesley offense to five runs, but after taking a 1-0 lead in the third, the Eastern bats could only generate another single tally in the fifth in the 5-2 loss. Jim Crowley scored a pair of runs for the Eagles. Andrew Reynolds and Davis Murray picked up RBI in the loss.
Freshman starter Ben Jones took the hill in game two and pitched a gem. The lanky right-hander gave up a run in the first, and held the Wolverines to just five hits in his six inning outing. The Eagles tied the game in the top of the sixth on Sean Ciletti RBI Single, but the hosts grabbed the run back in the bottom of the inning to take game two 2-1.
On Sunday afternoon, the Wesley bats overwhelmed the Eagles in a 17-6 win. The Eagles will conclude April and their season with a Monday afternoon home game against Baptist Bible.
