April 14: Softball Splits with Cabrini

split with Eagle Road Rival, the Eagles remain at the .500 mark and are right in the thick of the playoff race. Senior center fielder Jacey Bray took the offense in her own hands in game two as she slammed a pair of two run home runs to lift the Eagles to their ninth win of the year.

The visiting Cavaliers jumped to an early 3-0 advantage when sophomore third baseman Kristie Sandefur drove in three runs with her sixth homer of the year. The Cavaliers stretched their lead to 4-0 on an unearned run in the second before the Eagles were able to scratch out a single run in the bottom of the third. Bray drove in that run with a long sacrifice fly. Cabrini tallied a pair of unearned runs in the top of the fourth to take a 6-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh.

The Eagles rallied in the bottom of the seventh to make a game of it, but were unable to catch up. Trish Sims started things with a single, and advanced to second on a Stephanie Weaver single. Alyssa Brubaker walked to load the bases for Amanda Daveler. Daveler cracked a two-run double off the top of the left field fence. Bray hit a dep fly to center to score Brubaker, but Cabrini's Bern Dolan was able to get the last two outs for the win.

Eastern started out game two with a pair of Runs on Bray's first shot of the day, but the Cavaliers bounced back with two runs off Ashley Lewis in the top of the second. That would be all that the Eastern right-hander would allow, as she struck out five and shut down the Cabrini attack for the rest of the afternoon.

Senior Catcher Steph Okeson put the Eagles up in the bottom of the fourth when she doubled home Karen Hertzog.

As Lewis continued to work he way through the Cabrini line-up, the Eagles flipped their line-up going into the bottom of the fifth. Brubaker got things going with a one-out single, and Bray took care of the rest as she emptied the bases for her fifth and sixth RBI of the day.

The Eagles travel to Moravian for a non-conference double-header on Tuesday.
