April 20: Softball offense sputters against Arcadia

loss to Arcadia, the Eastern Softball Team only gathered three hits and a single run in a 7-1 game two loss.

Raychel Weiss pitched out of a second inning jam, when the visiting Scarlet Knights picked up six hits but only a pair of runs, but the Eastern offense could not generate any support behind her as just two Eagles saw second base the entire game. Arcadia's senior pitcher Jenn Compton kept the Eagles off balance, and then added her stamp on the game when she homered to lead off the seventh.

The Scarlet Knights jumped to a quick 1-0 lead in game two with an unearned run in the top of the second. The Eagles put together a shortlived rally in the bottom of the inning when Karen Hertzog singled to lead off. After Steph Okeson moved her to third and Ashley Lewis flied out to center. Junior third baseman Elise Murante cracked a single to center. Hertzog held at third and the Eagles had runners on the corners with two out.

Murante then stole second, and Hetzog stole home when Arcadia threw through. The inning ended when Murante got injured in a run-down between second and third.

The visitors scored three times in the sixth and three times in the second to improve to 15-1 in the league. Eastern returns to action tomorrow with a road double-header at Cedar Crest.
