with over ten days rest. The Eagle offense struggled in game one, and the host Crusaders shut out the Eagles 6-0, but the Eagles bounced back to win the second game 4-0 behind an Ashley Lewis two hitter.
Alvernia scored a pair of runs in the first inning of game one, and that was all the offense they would need as the Eagles did not pick up a hit until there was already an out in the seventh inning and the hosts had stretched their lead to six with four in the top of the sixth.
Karen Hertzog finally got the Eastern attack going when she led off the fifth inning of game two with a double. Steph Okeson walked behind her, and after an out Elise Murante tripled both runners home to give Lewis a two-run cushion. The junior right-hander had to work with runners on base in five of the seven innings, but only once allowed a runner to see third and was able to work out of every jam.
Alyssa Brubaker helped to generate an insurance run after a walk, a stolen base, and a passed ball in the sixth. Amanda Daveler knocked a sacrifice fly to left to plate the speedy shortstop. Murante scored an insurance run in the eighth when Stephanie Weaver stole second behind her.
The Eagles return to action tomorrow with an important home double-header against Cabrini.
