Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men's Lacrosse Downs Misericordia in OT

Pat Dempsey scored his second overtime goal of the year to lift them to 10-9 overtime win over conference rival College Misericordia. It is the Eagles' second win in a row and fourth of  the year.

After falling behind in the first forty seconds of the game, the Eagles scored seven straight times to take a commanding 7-1 lead just over halfway through the second period. Nick Mandia scored three times in the run, and Kyle Dresser, Nate Trunfio, Ben O'Donnell, and Michael Ryan each added solo tallies to build the big lead. Ryan, who scored the first goal, picked up two of his three assists for the game in the opening period.

The Cougars chipped away at the Eastern lead with three goals surrounding an O'Donnell tally to close the gap to 8-4 at the break. Sean Collins, Ryan Fitzgerald, and Danny McKeefrey each scored first half goals.

The Cougars dominated the ball in the third period, but steady defending and solid goalkeeping from Zach Rivest held the visitors to just a pair of goals. Ryan Dwyer made four of his fourteen saves in the third to hold the Eagles scoreless.

The Cougars scored twice more to start the fourth to make it six straight and tie the game at eight with 4:42 to play, and then were able to take advantage of a two men up situation to score with just under two minutes to play in the contest.

The Eagles forced a turnover on their own end line, and after a Cougar penalty would have the last 1:20 of the game up a man to try to tie. After a time out with forty seconds to play, the Eagles were able to work the ball behind the cage to Dresser who powered home his second goal of the game with just under eight seconds to play.

Both teams entered today's contest with overtime wins in their extra time experience on the year. After the Cougars won the face-off, they quickly called a time-out and set their offense for the game winner. Eastern senior Ben Peddicord, who earned All-PAC recognition in the Eagles first Varsity season last Spring, forced a turnover and ran the ball into the attack for the Eagles with just under two minutes to play. Peddicord forced a team high six turnovers on the game, but none was bigger than the last one.

After an eastern time out, Ryan found the cutting Dempsey in front of the cage and Dempsey fired a low shot for the game winner. Coach Levis said of the game, "I'm really proud of the way we battled back late. We played tremendously well in the opening quarter, but we needed to earn the win late, and we did. This has the potential to be a very critical win in shaping our playoff possibilities."

The Eagles return to action with a 2:30 home game on Saturday against Shenendoah.
