and gave the Crusaders a nine inning fight. Junior Nick Kaklowski took the ball for the Eagles, and the big right hander kept the Eagles in the game with a tough 6 and a third innings in Alvernia's hitters ballpark.
After the Eagles went down quietly in the first, the Crusaders jumped to a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the inning. Zach Lutz keyed the inning with the first of his two doubles on the day. The Eagles scratched out a pair of runs with a two out rally in the top of the second. Junior catcher
John Montague started the offense with a walk, and advanced to second when
Matt Powell took a free base on four pitches off the plate. Montague made the decision to be aggressive on the bases and tried to score on a
Kurt Kebaugh's single. The Eastern backstop forced a throw, and Powell was able to score on the error.
The Crusaders scored twice in the bottom of the inning to stretch their advantage to 5-2, but Kaklowski then shut down the hosts through the third, fourth, and fifth, and allowed just a single run in the sixth.
The Eagles scratched out unearned tallies in the fifth and seventh innings to cut the deficit to 6-4 before the Crusader bats got to Kaklowski with three more in the top of the seventh. The Eagles, now 4-6 in the PAC, take on Marywood in an important three game set this weekend.
