In looking at live outdoor pitching for the first time, the Eagle offense was unable to get started and Eastern dropped its first game of the season to Salisbury University 7-0.
The game started promisingly for the Eagles against the 26th ranked Sea Gulls. Junior
Mike Santello led off with a walk, and reached second one out later when Senior
Davis Murray reached on the first of 3 Gull errors. Eastern, however, could not capitalize on the scoring opportunity. Eastern had runners on in each of the first three innings against Gull starting pitcher Bryan Brainer, but could not bring any home.
Brainer and 3 other Salisbury pitchers combined to no-hit Eastern on the cold afternoon. The Gull offense scored 3 times against Eastern starter
Andrew Reynolds in the first inning, and that would be all they needed.
Eastern Junior
Nick Kakolowski pitched well in three innings of relief for the Eagles, and recorded 4 strikeouts. Eastern returns to action next on Saturday, March 3rd in Fort Pierce, FL, against Bethany College.
