The Eagles defeated Bethany College 19-12 Saturday afternoon to gain their first win of the 2007 season, and pull their record to even at 1-1. Eastern pounded out 24 hits in the game. Shortstop
Davis Murray went 5 for 6 with a walk, and
Mike Santello and
Matt Powell contributed 3 hits each in the win.
The game opened quietly for two innings before the Eagle offense came to life in the top of the third. Santello led of the inning with a double, and advanced to third when
Kenny Long reached base on an error.
Andrew Reynolds and Murray then contributed back to back RBI singles. Powell and
John Montague would also add run scoring hits, before turning the lineup over to Long and Reynolds again. Both would add run scoring hits in their second at bats of the inning. All told, 14 Eastern batters would hit in the inning, netting 8 runs.
Every Eastern batter added at least one hit in the contest. Montague led the team with 4 RBI’s, while Reynolds scored 4 runs. Murray also added 2 stolen bases.
Junior
Nick Kakolowski started for Eastern on the mound and retired 11 of the first 13 batters he faced, and gains his first win of the season. Freshmen
Zach Clouser pitched 3 and 2/3 innings in relief to notch his first save of the season.
The Eagles return to action Monday with two separate contests, against both LaRoche College and the University of Pittsburgh-Greensburg.
